How the work goes
  • Cabinet removal, installation, and scribing to fit irregular walls
  • Countertop templating and installation (stone, laminate, butcher block)
  • Plumbing relocation for sinks, dishwashers, disposals, and gas lines
  • Electrical work including dedicated circuits and code-compliant outlets
  • Backsplash Tile Installation
  • Flooring installation after cabinets and countertops are in
  • Permit handling and inspection coordination through Nevada County
  • Temporary kitchen setup if you're living in the house during the remodel

Kitchen renovations range from swapping cabinets and countertops to moving walls and replumbing the whole space. Scope determines timeline and cost, and we walk through options before you commit. Cabinet installation starts with removing old units, checking wall plumb and floor level, and shimming as needed. We scribe cabinets to fit irregular walls—common in older mountain homes—and secure them to studs, not just drywall. Upper cabinets go in first, then lowers, then we level and align before installing hardware. If you're keeping existing cabinets, we can reface or repaint them, but the boxes need to be structurally sound. Particle board that's swollen from water damage won't hold screws. Countertops—granite, quartz, butcher block, laminate—are templated after cabinets are installed. Stone countertops require a separate fabricator; lead time is typically 2-3 weeks from template to install. We cut and install laminate and butcher block in-house. Undermount sinks require solid substrate and proper support; we don't shortcut the structure to save an hour. A sink that sags or leaks because the support wasn't built right is a bigger problem than the time it took to do it correctly. Plumbing work includes relocating sinks, installing dishwashers and disposals, running gas lines for ranges, and upgrading shut-off valves. If you're adding a pot filler or moving the sink to an island, we rough in new supply and drain lines. Electrical work includes installing dedicated circuits for appliances—refrigerators, microwaves, dishwashers, ranges—and adding outlets to meet current code (one every 4 feet on countertop walls). We pull permits for plumbing, electrical, and gas work and coordinate inspections. Flooring, backsplash tile, and paint happen after cabinets and countertops are in. We protect finished surfaces and clean as we go. If you're living in the house during the remodel, we set up a temporary kitchen in another room—microwave, cooler, coffee maker—so you're not eating takeout for six weeks. Kitchen remodels are disruptive. We manage the timeline so the disruption is as short as possible without rushing the work. Permits are required for any work involving plumbing, electrical, or gas. Inspections happen at rough-in and final stages. We schedule them and make sure everything passes the first time.
